PokéBonk is a Pokémon fan game that combines monster collecting with the chaotic, addictive gameplay of a survivor-style roguelike. In PokéBonk, you have to withstand waves of enemies and level up your Pokémons as you play. Kill adversaries to reap prizes and choose upgrades to increase your attack speed, damage, protection, movement, or experience gain. You can also discover unique artifacts that provide you with status effects like burn, poison, and paralysis.
Catching Pokémon is a big part of the experience. Some animals require you to fulfill special challenges before you can unlock them, thus beating foes alone may not be enough. Keep a watch out for shiny Pokémon, frightening Alpha encounters, and special challenges that reward you for exploring and battling.
You'll also find new Pokémon to use as avatars as you go. There are reasons for you to return to run it back again as you nab creatures and see challenges through to more unlocks as well.
Each upgrade can impact your approach. You might focus on stacking damage, strengthening fire-type attacks, or designing around status effects that weaken adversaries over time. Shrines, awards, and unique encounters can also work to build up your character, albeit some may place your character in risky situations.
Enemies are more common, bosses hit harder, and the tension of when to pull the trigger on all or nothing builds.
PokéBonk also has a progression system beyond individual runs. By playing, killing bosses, catching shiny Pokémon, and completing tasks, you can earn Stardust. You can spend this coin on permanent enhancements that will impact future runs and slowly make you and your Pokémon stronger.
