Shell Survivor

Shell Survivor is a browser-based survival action game in which you control a small, grumpy-looking egg in a graveyard teeming with purple alien creatures. Don’t let its cute appearance fool you! Enemies swarm in ever-increasing numbers, and even a few seconds of lost focus can cost you your advantage.

How to Play Shell Survivor

Move, dodge, and collect resources

Use the WASD keys or the arrow arrows to move. Your weapons fire automatically rather than requiring you to constantly click. You’ll want to focus on not getting surrounded, staying away from the monsters, and collecting the materials the monsters drop when you kill them.

Life: Pay money for items and trade experience to level up. Upon leveling up, you can choose one of four stat upgrades—prioritize options that suit your current situation rather than simply picking the one that seems the most powerful.

Purchase weapons and build your loadout

Between waves, you can visit the shop to buy guns, swords, missiles, and various support items. The game features 56 types of weapons and 136 items to experiment with; you can carry up to six weapons at a time.

A key mechanic is the merging system: combine two identical weapons of the same level to upgrade them to a higher tier (up to a maximum of level 4). You can also lock items you wish to keep or refresh the shop’s inventory to find different options.

Tips for surviving the waves

Don’t spend all your resources at once

Shop prices increase with each wave, and every refresh within the same turn also costs more. You may sometimes want to save your cash so you can upgrade your key weapons than buy a bunch of weaker items. Play strategically as far as what you buy.

Choose weapons that complement each other

Don’t focus solely on single-target damage. When enemies appear in swarms, utilizing missiles, area-of-effect weapons, turrets, and landmines can help you better control the battlefield. Experiment with various combinations to discover the loadout that best suits your playstyle.

Preparing for the Final Boss

Twenty waves, with a boss at the end of each run. Early waves are short, but the pressure increases as you go. It's not only how much damage you deal but how fast (breaking out of envelopment if you have to).

Difficulty Levels and Endless Mode

Shell Survivor features seven challenge tiers, ranging from Danger 0 to Nightmare. You must secure a victory to unlock the next level. Once you’ve grown comfortable with the pace of combat, try Endless Mode. This mode has no fixed conclusion; the difficulty increases with every wave, and a boss appears every five waves.

Runs take about 20 minutes to complete from start to finish, perfect for those who want a quick bite of gaming with plenty of scope for tactical fine-tuning. Subsequent runs have you trying new arms and characters or comparing to old times.
